She prefers to be on her own, but she has been appreciating the company of her fellow foster kitty sisters. Magellan would do best in a quiet home with a friendly cat or two, although a respectful dog may be okay. If you're looking for an outgoing cat who will follow you from room to room, she's not the right pet for you, but if you're looking for a gentle soul and are willing to invest a little time and patience, I think you'll have a grateful friend in Magellan. A small, skittish, black and white cat, she had been found living in a dumpster and had turned partially feral. With a lot of coaxing, she began to allow us to pet her while we fed her, but never sought us or any of the other animals in our house out. Roughly three months ago, Peek A Boo and her companion, Zoom Zoom, also came to live with us. We tried to adopt them out together, but Peek A Boo had fallen from a futon and hurt her leg, while Zoom Zoom garnered some attention that led to her being adopted on her own. We realized that Peek A Boo and Magellan had been sharing a room and sleeping in close proximity to one another. Soon, we noticed that Magellan was lying on the floor next to the crate Peek A Boo was recuperating in. She would eat her meals there, positioning herself so she could watch Peek A Boo. Since then, the two have become inseparable. They sleep adjacent to one another, eat beside one another, and together have adopted a third cat, Happy, who has come to stay for a while. Peek A Boo is immensely affectionate, often coming downstairs to ask for rubs and pets. We think its a result of her example that Magellan has also done this, often crying for attention from anyone passing the stairs. We have not seen Peek A Boo relating to dogs, but she shows little fear of them. What she and Magellan, who we have come to see as a pair, seem to prefer is to be left alone to wander and explore by themselves, determining for themselves when they want human interaction. Peek A Boo has a spot on one futon she prefers over all others, where she gets the late morning sun from one side and the early afternoon sun from the other. When people enter the room, she greets them, often coming to them for affection. Neither she nor Magellan like being lifted or held. They seek out affection on their own terms. Magellan especially has a history of reverting to her semi-feral ways if she is handled a lotfor instance, given medication over several daysand then left to seclude herself. Peek A Boo has hissed when petted from the rear if she has intentionally turned her back, but has never bit or clawed when picked up (again, for medication). She is overweight and needs to be exercised (for instance, by going up and down stairs) but is an excellent companion who can be surprising in her affection.
